EFINI STEERING WHEEL

In the late 1980s, Mazda diversified its Japanese market with the launch of three new marques: Autozam, Eunos, and Efini. The Efini marque was a sport-oriented brand, as opposed to the more comfortable, luxury-oriented Eunos.

"Efini" is a derivation of the word infinity. It first appeared as the name and logo “Infini” (meaning "infinite" in French) on several limited-edition RX-7s from the late 1980s. These included:

- Infini I, "Type T" - 1986 - 300 total
- Infini II, "Type U" - 1988 - 300 total
- Infini III, "Type V" - 1989 - 600 total
- Infini IV, "Type W" - 1991 - 600 total

Then came the "Infini IV", a hot-rodded second generation RX-7 as a prelude to the upcoming third generation RX-7. When the third generation RX-7 was introduced, the name was then shortened to “Efini”, while retaining the same meaning. Hence, the stylized infinity symbol (a "figure 8" on its side) in the rotor-shaped emblem.

This continued from the introduction of the third generation RX-7 in 1991 until late 1997, at which point Mazda swapped the stylized rotor-shaped infinity emblem for the new corporate "flying M" logo.

Here is the OEM Efini steering wheel, equipped on the 1996 - late 1998 RX-7s. It's the wheel with the much sought after Efini emblem in the center. This wheel measures 370mm in diameter (versus 380mm stock), for easier maneuvering of the wheel. Please note this steering wheel is NOT equipped with an airbag. This steering wheel is completely plug 'n play with all year FD3S'.

The Efini Y-pipe replaces these two pipes with high quality aluminum pieces. The black plastic crossover tube has a tendency to crack on both ends and the rubber connector between the Y-pipe and crossover tube has a tendency to split. These cracks can be the source of hard-to-solve boost problems. The cracks can't be seen unless you remove the tube and pry it open, and yet under boost pressure the cracks open up enough to vent boost (which is sometimes accompanied by a loud whooshing sound from under the hood). The Efini pipe also moves the air-bypass valve connection out of the air flow so it breaths a little better than the stock pipe. In fact, most who use the Efini Y-pipe have seen faster spool and even a full additional psi of boost!

Don't forget to capitalize on other upgrades found on the Efini RX-7, such as the Efini "whale tail" wing and Efini Y-pipe!
